Sangar is a paradise of Rajasthani handicrafts located at a distance of 16 km from Jaipur on the Tonk road. It is one of the important excursions from Jaipur. For those tourists who would want to do up your houses with some Rajasthani handicrafts, head to Sanganer. It is well known for its crafts and hand-printed textiles. It is also the largest center of the handmade paper industry. This industry was started by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in the year 1728. Now this place has around 10 handmade paper industries. You can buy handmade paper and hand printed textiles of finest quality at this place. The artisans of the paper industry are called the 'Kagazis'. The traditional small floral prints are the most famous prints here. The unique feature of Sanganer prints is that the patterns in vibrant colors are always printed on white backgrounds.
Sanganer also has on its tourist map ruined palaces and Jain Temples, all standing examples of the craftsmanship of the time. The Digambar Jain Temple of Sanganer attracts the visitors with its stylized architecture. This temple is often compared to the Dilwara Temples of Mount Abu. The temple is constructed in an ancient architectural style, with its' sky-high 'shikhars' or Spires. The inner chamber is shelter to an idol of Parshwanath with 7 serpent hoods. The Sanganer Fort too forms a major tourist attraction.
