For those tourists who would like a glimpse of religious life in India, do not miss the Govind Devji temple. The Temple is dedicated to Govind Dev, otherwise known as Lord Krishna .The temple is situated in the City Palace complex, between the Chandra Mahal and Badal Mahal. Govind Dev was the principal deity of Amber's Kachawaha Dynasty. Initially, the idol of the temple was enshrined in Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh.
According to a legend, Govind Dev Ji appeared in the dream of Raja Sawai Jai Singh and asked him to bring his idol from Vrindavan to Jaipur. In response, Raja Sawai Jai Singh brought the idol and placed it in the City Palace complex of Jaipur. Janmashtmi, the birthday of Lord Krishna, is a special event and is celebrated with pomp and splendor. Different forms of ritual and offerings mark the religious activity throughout the day. Govind Dev temple today stands as an important site for Hindu religious worship.
This temple is an important religious site for the devotees of Lord Krishna. It is one of the most important shrines in India after Vrindavan. The Lord in the shrine is offered aarti and bhog seven times a day. One must come here during the festival of Janmashtami which is celebrated here with great enthusiasm attracting many a devotees. Before the aarti processions the idols of Lord Krishna and Radha are dressed beautifully.
